In order to maintain a heightened level of realism and competition it is essential for the Dynasty Football League to implement a salary cap structure as outlined below. The effects of said salary cap will be numerous and far reaching, but in no ways more important than these:
The salary cap adds realism to the league.
The salary cap adds to the competitiveness of the league by allowing for better talent distribution across the 16 franchises.
The salary cap helps to reduce the chance that one franchise becomes a multi-year juggernaut that makes the league no fun for everyone else.
The salary cap keeps rosters fresh by encouraging trades, thus increasing year round interest.
The salary cap for each franchise will be $380 for 28 players
Initial salaries are slotted during the Start-Up draft by draft position.

Contracts
When drafting a player you now see what his yearly cap number or salary will be. You can sign a player from anywhere from 1 Year up to 6 year contract. It is completely up to you. If a player retires. You are on the hook for the length of that contract. The only way minus a transaction to have a player come off of your roster is if he passes away. Think long and hard before signing a Peyton Manning to a 5-6 year deal. The following are all the possible transactions and how they effect your salary cap number.
Waivers
If there is a player you no longer want and would like to fill up his roster spot with someone else you could put him on waivers. You can only have 1 player on waivers at a time. He can stay on waivers for as long as his contract if you choose. You simply post in the waiver section of the transactions board the players name and his cap # and contract years.
Example: Post Subject: Cecil Shorts
The post: Cleveland Waives Cecil Shorts WR Jack $12/3 Years
You free up the roster spot but his salary is still counted towards your yearly cap number of $380. It is first come first serve for the other 15 teams to choose to claim him off of waivers. If a team claims a waived player they take on the whole contract and the team that waived the player is off the hook completely. To claim the player just simply be the 1'st team to reply to the post just write: Claimed by Buffalo. The waiving team can also choose to reclaim him by replying to the original waiver post: Reclaimed by Cleveland.
Releasing a Player
If there is a player you no longer want and can't trade or no one will claim off of waivers you can simply choose to release him. This instantly eliminates his roster spot for you. However you pay a cap penalty when releasing him. The benefit is the whole cap hit occurs in the current season and then is off of your books after that season. The cap hit is 1.5 times his yearly salary. So if you are releasing RB Trent Richardson and his salary is $42/3 years you would take a cap hit of $63 that season, however after our season ends that $63 would be completely off of your salary cap. To release a play post under release on the transaction board as follows:
